The undergraduate chapter is hosting a career presentation, featuring three extraordinary Gamma-O alums, who are seasoned professionals. The panel discussion takes place at the chapter house on April 12, 2023.

Let's meet our esteemed guest panelists:

 

Michael Clay '71

Michael recently retired from a long and successful career in architecture. He graduated from KU in 1974 with a bachelor’s in environmental design, completed some graduate work towards a construction management degree, then joined general practice firms designing schools, Lighton Plaza Towers, 1111 Walnut Street high rise, and other commercial projects.

From 1985 to 2001, his expertise was inscribed at HNTB, Ellerbe Becket (now AECOM) and Populus Projects, where he helped transform large arenas and stadiums. Examples include the Philadelphia Arena, Thomas & Mack Center, Sprint Center, and the Daytona Raceway.

The final ten years of his professional career were spent at P.C. Sports, where he provided oversight and design of large-scale projects, such as the Kyle Field football stadium, Churchill Downs horse racing complex, Chase Center, and Phoenix Suns Arena.

Michael married Irma, a KU ADPi in 1972. They enjoy life with their two children and four grandchildren.

 

Jim Unruh '78

As a Senior Vice President for Colliers Kansas City, Jim leads Colliers’ Real Estate Management Services for a portfolio of 10+ million square feet in 100+ properties. This team includes 30+ property managers, associates and engineering personnel in three local offices. Jim has demonstrated success in value enhancement of office, retail and industrial assets investment. Prior to joining Colliers, Jim was a member of the management team for Corporate Woods, a 2-million-squarefoot Class A office, retail and hotel joint venture between Metropolitan Life and Kansas City principals of Jones & Company. His oversight included daily operations, execution of capital projects, contract administration, service specifications, budgeting and lease administration and renewals.

Prior to Jones & Company, Jim worked for a local developer, CB Self & Company. He served as manager for new Class A office and retail developments along the College Boulevard corridor in suburban Overland Park, Kansas. Jim was responsible for transitioning substantially completed projects to occupiable assets, establishing tenant services and addressing building warranties.

Jim graduated from the University of Kansas and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Quite active in the local community, he is a School Board Chairman for the Kansas City Christian Schools, Committee Chairman for the Boy Scouts of America, and the Alumni Corporation Board President for Gamma-O.

 

Robb Hagg '98

Rob has firsthand experience in balancing an organization’s services to integrate a suite of insurance strategies alongside wealth management platforms. Rob has blended all of these concepts over the last 18 years across multiple RIA platforms.

In 2020, Rob, alongside two brilliant minds, transitioned 60 plus years of combined experience and formed Fortis Capital Advisors. They have created a fiercely independent, fully entrepreneurial platform allowing advisors to focus on what they do best, procure new clients. The team-oriented approach for Rob and team to grow a combined historical asset under management of well over $10 billion.

Prior to Fortis, Rob utilized a fresh and innovative approach to helping advisors build a more robust client offering at CreativeOne. While there, he became founding partner of ChangePath, a TAMP and corporate RIA, assisting investment advisors in creating turn key strategies for their clients and focusing their efforts on growing AUM.

Rob began his career with New York Life and earned a spot as a top producer before he saw the advantages of working as an independent advisor. As a repeat Million Dollar Round Table qualifier, he joined a wealth management firm in Kansas City as the Insurance Director. He was quickly embraced by ownership, and became a Partner and President of the Insurance Division. Rob continued to expand the offerings of the business and earned a spot as a top 10 producer for Aviva Life and Annuity Company.

Originally from the northwest Chicago suburbs, Rob remained in Kansas City after completing his Bachelor of Science in Business Communications from University of Kansas and obtaining his MBA from Rockhurst University. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Jessica, and children Kaleb, Tucker, Ainsley and Elyse. Rob and Jessica dedicate their time to a number of non-profit organizations in the Kansas City area.
